an interesting quote i ran across in a book recently.
unsure if its accuracy, i did some research and was able to locate and confirm where it was gleaned from.
“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.”
– U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864
From a letter to Col. William F. Elkins

Photograph was taken a month later in December 1864

the infamous sb
I’ve read that one too, and in several places I consider to be reliable (the film, “The Corporation” that you’ve seen too, and maybe in “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn…) We don’t have such long-term-minded folks running for such offices nowadays, alas.
