[erisian] Now I’m going to even the score… (2009)
Sitting at work every day i have abundant amounts of time to listen to music. typically i cope with the boredom by working out an unthemed compilation about every 4-5 months. what with recent changes in my staff and an increase in work load, i have unfortunately not been able to do so in a while.
at the spurring of friends, i finished cobbling this together last week and have given it the obligatory 5-10 listen throughs to make sure it is not something that just i will enjoy (yes, there are a great many of those)
I am a firm believer that compilations must be able to be burnt to cd or fit on a tape cassette. they also must always have cover art and feel complete. otherwise, it is nothing more than someones ipod playlist. i am a firm believer that hardcopy tangibility = legitimacy.
feedback is encouraged.
Compilation title came from the lyrics of track 11, “Sucker” as by Peeping Tom. PT is a side project of Faith No More front man Mike Patton. Back up vocals by Norah Jones.
Cover is a mixture of various sources compiled together using Paint.Net (getpaint.net)

I claim no copyright on the above music, consider it fan marketing for the bands involved. it is all good music and worth checking out to make your own decision.
Enjoy.
Basic information-
- Made to be listened to from beginning to end at least the first time. everything is placed in a specific relationship with the song before and after. After the first play through, skipping to tracks you enjoy will not detract from the overall feel of it.
- This compilation was created to fit on an 80 minute CD-R

Well, I s’pose that one would arbitrarily have to be of a certain age / demographic / musical inclination to fully appreciate this compilation.
Myself, being 51 / (ex)long-haired hippie type / heavy metal fanatic, does not seem to fit into the right slot to gain any kind of appreciation for this. And I even took the suggestion to listen to the entire “album” from start to finish, without falling to urge to skip to the next song, before making a decision. Truly, the most painful 60 minutes I have had to sit through since Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”. I did, however, almost perk up when the song “Muse” by Hysteria came on. Then the vocals assailed me and I faded into teeth-grinding disenchantment.
So. Without a doubt, I am not the one to give an honest critique of the musical side of the compilation. I couldn’t find any sort of pre or post relationship – specific or otherwise – between each track as was mentioned in the Basic Info. Of course, I was in a “help! save me!” mode by the time the third track appeared so song relationship was not high on my list of analytics.
The best I can offer is that it was evenly encoded (volume, equalization, etc), simply tagged, and had interesting artwork… cryptic, but interesting (Space Invaders??). I thank you for your effort in creating this. Perhaps I will burn it to a CD and offer it up to my kids (F-27, M-25, F-23) and request their input.
RoKuS, one & all
The effort behind your critique brings a little tear to my eye Robb…
to help with the feelings of torture now ingrained in your soul, i am wokring on something more metal related for the next one.. it was being worked on in tandem with this.
Thanks for the feedback :)
Well, dang it all!! Why the heck can’t a person be anonymous ’round this here web hiway? What gave this old boy away? My profile in my email address? The fact that RoKuS is famous world-wide and throughout 3 star systems (but even *they* don’t know I am Robb!)? The overabundance of big words and sloppy sarcasm? shoot…
aww, heck! Now everybody knows who I am!
oooo, wait, unless this blog is as popular as my website…
Metal? Did someone mention metal??
you have a special brand of sarcasm, rokus helped. lastly, i have experience reading forum posts where you talk to yourself in a debate manner using different names. it is quite entertaining :)
i am good at analyzing writing samples.
WEEE!
