recently saw a large portion of mg family when they came town to see jenn and me for our wedding. was awesome but it really hit me how much i was missing everyone.
now i am down in cali for jenns brothers wedding. alot of her family is down here and i am missing mine all over again.
the good thing is that my brother, sped, lives down here. i dont get to see him nearly often enough and i will be able to stop in today and give him a hug. it wont fix everything but it sure will feel nice.
…. hey scientists of the world.. get cracking on those startrek transporters.. i would love you long time as the lady said in full metal jacket.
sometimes i wonder if i should start actively reading the summary blurbs on books before buying them. this isnt to say that i never read the inlays, just that it is not often. i look at it much in the same way i do movie previews and dvd menus. why would i want to know what is going to happen in a story right before i read it? i want a summary or spoiler about as much as a tracheotomy.
i dont need to spend the whole book wondering when such and such will occur. i will get there in my own time. if i do read the liner, i will ofter wait a couple months before reading the actual book. this gives me the luxury of forgetting the details, leaving me only with the “i remember this sounded interesting” feeling.
i read a fair number of books each month/year,… Read the rest
Blood Kin, written by Ceridwen Dovey, was a big surprise. It was given to me in a big bag o’books by my friend Janneke. The bag was so full of possible reads that I didnt know I had it in my posession until earlier this summer. When it did come to my attention, I escalated it up my list of “to be read” books. Not reading the back cover, I was first drawn in by the authors name, very beautiful. The cover was well put together and designed nicely (click image to enlarge)
Clocking in at 183 pages, it didnt take long to get through the story and was a nice break from a series I was in the middle of.
I am unsure where the book takes place. It could be in a South American country, or deep in an unknown country in eastern Europe. However, I did get… Read the rest
coffee and kung fu is a book about loneliness. it it about settling for less, because of fear of having nothing. it is about finding yourself a little bit at a time and not recognizing the pieces.
brichoux’s book was quite entertaining. though the book opens with a kung fu movie description, non k-fu fans should not be deterred. there is more here than the first chapter and book title lead you to believe. though ever chapter will contain a couple references to jackie chan films, his legacy will not taint your experience. it would be nice if the main character had a bit more taste in classic kung fu.
general fiction, a bit of romance, some humor and drama, it is a very well rounded read and worth putting in the effort to get past chapter 1.
it can all catch fire for all i care… nine to five is now six till whenever which is commonly thirteen to fourteen hours later and i am fucking done with it…. too bad i still need the paychecks….
nevermind.. a long island, some hang time and a couple rounds of halo fixed me right up. “desire for fire” averted.
Was waiting for the max yesterday after work. looked down at the bench i was near and there was this interesting sticker plastered to it. i know it is nothing more than a design someone drew up, but i cant help but feel a bit geeky.
from my perspective, all i can see s the helmet of Samus from the Metroid series. looks like she is infected by alien organisms, bombarding the inside of the suit and puncturing through.
could just be me though..
up at 4:30–> on bus by 5am–>to work by 6am–>stay till 6pm/6:30pm or later.
the only bonus to days like this is the ride into work. it is practically the only time that the MAX (light-rail) is comfortable to ride. i love the rail, but it has been so packed the last couple years that it is becoming mroe of a hassel than a help.
at 5am it is still fantastic.
