new books in the mail

September 15th, 2008 by erisian

a few weeks back i was fortunate enough to win some contests that other blogs i frequent were hosting.

it spawned me to decide a similar idea later on.. more on that later.

i held off on posting my joyous news until i had them in my posession, mainly because i am a sore internet user and i get sad when i am excited for somethings arrival and then it never comes. instead of moping publicly, i waited.

in my office at work over the last two work days, i recieved two fantastic packages.

the first was from Alisha over at thekoolaidmom.wordpress.com (In the Shadow of Mt TBR)

she held a giveaway of Why You Shouldn’t Eat Your Boogers and Other Gross or Useless Information About Your Body by Frances Gould.

she even sent it to me in a really cool package! (seen below)

Today i was also given a fantastic gift. also won in a contest, i recieved a copy of Christopher Meeks’s’s’s Months and Seasons (i never get the ’s’s right so why not over compensate). Rebecca over at The book Lady’s Blog (http://rjsbooklady.wordpress.com/) was kind enought to send me a copy of this book after a fortunate winning on my part. in fact, she sent it twice.. once after ther hermits in the basement of my work building agonized over which floor it should go to then tossed it out the door like so much orc poop, then later when it arrived back at her home again (thank you so much for your patience)

Her original contest was here and a fantastic guest post on her site by Christopher Meeks here

both contests were very fun and interactive. i owe Rebecca, Alisha and Mr Meeks reviews so these will be next on my list.

It may be a few more days before i can start reading these though as i am midway through Andrew Davidson’s The Gargoyle.. slow reading but very very incredible. two weeks i have been on this due to the depth and detail of this great book, that and i keep falling asleep on the max train two work every day.

bad jason… bad bad jason…

review: sweetheart - chelsea cain

September 8th, 2008 by erisian

Sweetheart - my late review because i have been lazy

jennifer swiped the book right out of my sweaty palms when we gor home the night the book was released. 24 hours later, she dropped it back into my hands. she looked at me and i could see, as if i were a psychic, that i was going to drop the book i was reading and move on to sweetheart. sure enough, i must be a friggin psychic. 24 hours later (48 from when we bought it) both jenn and i were finished reading sweetheart. DAMN I WISH I WERE A SLOWER READER.

heartsick introduced us all to Archie, the vicoden popping torture victim portland detective. we met Susan, bizarre hair colored closet cigarette smoker oregon journalist with a penchant for married men. last but not least, gretchen lowell, pacific northwest serial killer wih 200 murders under her belt..

with gretchen in jail, and archie (her final victim) clutching loosely at his own pill induced death, everything seems like it is going to cool down in portland. Archie is drawn into another series of murders, unfortunately, the clues are slim. Susan is still racking down information about a local senator and his sexual escapades with a 14 year old babysitter, a story that is over a decade old.

there was a lot of humor, dark black humor in this book. humor might be a bit incorrect, as it leans more toward humour.. coming out of whatever hole the murderer created in the corpse. but regardless, there was a more solid/lively feel to some of the characters, even in situations where there should have been none. you could tell that Chelsea was more in her element, that she was more comfortable with the personalities of her creations. she was able to create the connections between characters and situations with out being overbearing.

book two of chelsea cain’s series was phenomenal. i was caught off guard. i was rooting for the bad guy, yet hoping she would die painfully. i could not get enough of it. i was sad when the end arrived. i was left wanting the third book to be finished and in my hands.

anyway, not much of a review.. but hey.. lazy plus in a hurry equals me spoutin off with the clickety clack of the keyboard.

oh yeah.. Chelsea, for the movie? i would suggest sarah chalke from Scrubs and other shows… she could pull off a gretchen in your heartsick movie adaptation.

click the thumbnails and tell me it isnt a great idea !

Clerks 2

September 3rd, 2008 by erisian

As a special bonus.. cause i couldnt stop thinking about this video after posting the other one.. reference the previous post to see what i i mean.. Jay and Silent Bob from Clerks 2.. One of the funniest and most unexpected scenes.. Jay doing the the Silence of the Lambs dance.. For those unfamiliar, there is a bit of nudity and profanity.. but HILARIOUS! and if you havent seen silence, you wont get it, so dont ask, just correct your mistake… The mistake being the lack of watching of course.

oh glorious clerks..
